James:
Hi and welcome to Living My Faith. I’m James Fenimore, and today we’ve got a very special guest for you. Actually, we’ve got two. Joining me is Kamille Bauer and Matt Curtis. Matt, Kamille, how are you?
Kamille:
Great, thanks.
Matt:
Doing well.
James:
Thank you so much for joining me today. And like I told you before the show, Matt, we are men of chivalrous principles.
So I’m going to start with you, Kamille. Kamille, we open the show with one simple question. How are you living in your faith?
Kamille:
I’m living my faith by grabbing the wheel with white knuckles. Every day it has to be a choice. And every day, I am choosing to rely on God to guide my steps and help me see his light in the choices I make daily, whether it’s easy choices or hard in business.
Having God be the center of my life and Jesus Christ is giving me peace beyond compare.
James:
Well, I think that’s a good prescription for a lot of people. Peace beyond compare. So thank you for sharing that, Kamille.
Matt, you got the cheat code. You know what’s coming your way. Matt, how are you living your faith?
Matt:
Yeah, I think for me, it’s all about pace. I come from an industry that’s fast paced in creative work, and I have found that I need to slow down in order to hear God’s voice in my life.
And what that’s done for me is it’s revealed the opportunities that he’s already put in front of me with caring for my family, raising my kids. Even the people that are kind of on the periphery, I’m able to engage them more meaningfully, invest in them, and hopefully care for them and love them in a way that shows them God’s love for them as well.
James:
I hear you more than you know, Matt. I come from a background of owning several businesses, successful businesses, and having to manage them as well — the operations and the speed can get in the way.
And when they’re successful, you think you’re doing it right. It’s like false positivity. And having to slow down and be in the presence of God is really, really important. So thank you for sharing that.
All right, so Kamille, we talked a little bit before. This show is Living My Faith. You gave me how you’re living your faith. How are you doing that with your work, your everyday life? Give me some practical ways.
Kamille:
Yeah. I think a major thing that helps me focus and keep my faith in my heart is reading the scriptures, reading the words of God.
I heard a quote once that’s like the scriptures are like packets of light for your mind. And I truly believe that.
Because I’m reading right now in Genesis with God telling Abraham and Sarah that they’re going to have a kid, and they’re like, she’s 90 and he’s 100. And God said, is anything too hard for me? Is anything too hard for me?
And that’s just rested on my heart. Just some simple example of it — is anything too hard for God? No, it is not. And if it’s meant for me, I can believe and trust God and know that it won’t pass me.
And reading those words and listening, whether you listen and you’re busy — which I do, I own a business — sometimes the reading for me is in my car as I’m driving to and from. So choosing to not listen to the radio, but choose God’s Word and God’s light through song or words is pivotal for me in my business, in my personal life, as a mom, and my peace — my personal peace.
And remembering that Christ is there for me and his words are just waiting to strengthen me if I choose it.
James:
That’s really profound because in this day and age, it’s very easy to go on social media or go on to — everything is at our fingertips to do anything other than be in the presence of God.
We have so many distractions, and the enemy uses them all. So to get in the car, instead of turning on the radio, maybe do a Bible on tape or something like that, or a sermon — really, really good advice. I thank you for that, Kamille.
Matt, you have in your business — I know — is very closely related to ministry and churches and things like that. Can you speak to that a little bit?
Matt:
Yeah. So I work with churches to help them build their creative ministry. Typically it’s communications is kind of the term that’s used. But help them connect the dots for the people in their congregation to the next steps that are happening in their ministry.
And so, yeah, sometimes it’s dealing with problems and kind of unhealthy structures. Other times it’s building something from scratch. But yeah, it’s involved with creatives who are serving their churches in that capacity.
James:
Can you give me an example? Expand on that a little bit.
Matt:
Yeah. So a lot of times what happens in ministry is you have a bunch of options for people to take a next step, but then there’s too many options for people to take a next step.
So I often refer to communications as kind of the air traffic control of messaging in the church.
We have 20 different next steps, but we want to make sure the right people hear about the right opportunities. So we’re trying to take the chaos of all of the messaging and simplify it so that someone can find that next step.
Often what I see is that God is using the ministry of the church to help people grow, to help them work through challenges, hardships, things like that. But it’s not always easy to see what that next step is.
And so communication steps into that role to say, hey, I think I know the right next step for you. And then we get to watch and see God work through that ministry.
James:
Wow. That’s incredible. I know we have a lot of pastors and church fellows that watch. So anybody out there, that information is going to be below the show. So take a look at that because that can really help your church.
Kamille, I have a closing question for you because I know what you’ve been through. And I just feel like you could give some advice to our audience.
For people out there that are new to faith, that maybe have just been kind of stepping into this walk with Christ, how can they live out their faith daily? What’s one good piece of advice you could give them?
Kamille:
One good piece of advice for somebody going through something really hard is just planting that seed of belief. Just putting forth the effort and just waiting and trusting for that growth or that sprout to grow. And you’ll see that.
I was born and raised in a faith, but dealing with a spouse and terminal cancer, it really made me believe — what do I believe?
And I really put God to the test and experimented. On days I was angry and mad, I was depressed, my life suffered. My ability to take care of my kids and my business suffered.
In those days where I choose, okay, I choose faith today. Let me put you to the test, God — where I actually put my words to God and in my heart to trust him — it was very powerful.
Where I could see and palpably feel and notice when I invited Christ in my life for that day, I had comfort beyond imagination.
And that’s what Christ promises is in this world you will have peace if you turn to me. And it’s unexplainable. But experiment — that would be my number one thing.
Try to put God to the test with an earnest heart, expecting and believing that if you ask, you shall receive. Not cynically, but trusting in that action that God will show up for you.
Time and time again, he showed up for me. So much so that I could never deny my faith and belief that I know that the seeds I have planted have grown into a tree of faith that is unwavering.
James:
I really like that, and I think that’s great advice for people, especially that are new on this walk with their faith.
Kamille, Matt, I want to thank you so much for joining me today. It’s been such a pleasure. It’s been so informative, and I know our audience really took a lot out of that. So thank you so much for joining me today.
Kamille:
Thank you.
James:
That’s been Matt Curtis, Kamille Bauer. I’m James Fenimore. This has been Living My Faith, and I cannot wait to see you next time.
